My previous portfolio site did not showcase my creativity or my identity very well. I wanted to create a brand for myself that would help to express my personality through my design work.
Adobe Illustrator • Figma • Webflow
The creation of my logo was an iterative process. I began with research, sketching and then starting creating versions in Illustrator until I was happy that it represented me.
My first step was to look for inspiration and figure out what I liked, I tend to jump between bold and more elegant, calligraphic typography so I wanted to create something in-between. I created a pinterest board to keep track of references and inspiration.
Once, I had some idea of the direction I wanted to go, I started sketching out different ideas.
I then researched different typefaces, comparing them to my design in order to find something similar. I settled on 'Nunito' and began working in Illustrator. I used the pencil, direct selection, pathfinder and smooth tools to manipulate the glyphs.
I tried out a lot of different colour combinations of white, pink and dark grey. I wanted to ensure that the colours passed the WCAG so that it was fully accessible.
Once I had established a logo, I needed to re-design my portfolio site (the one you're on right now!) to solidify my new branding.
The previous design of my site, whilst consistent and neat, lacked any character or inspiration. It didn't showcase my skills very well or my creativity.
I took the colour scheme I created from my logo and created some base components in Figma for my site to ensure consistency and visual coherence.
I then created mid/high-fidelity wireframes for the different page types of my site, making sure I considered both mobile and desktop.
When I had a layout I was happy with, I implemented it within Webflow. Using CSS classes for consistent styling and making sure to check various resolutions so the site could be responsive.
